WHAT CAN YOU DO ABOUT IT?
HERE ARE 3 SIMPLE ACTIONS YOU CAN TAKE.

01 - Get a HEPA air purifier!

A HEPA air purifier is the most effective way to reduce the amount of UFPs you breathe in your home. Our laboratory and in-home tests have shown that a HEPA air purifier can reduce the concentration of UFPs by over 80% if used properly and consistently.

But HEPA filters are expensive. We’re currently running a pilot program aimed at improving access to HEPA filters for East Boston homes and classrooms. If you are interested in being part of the pilot and receiving a free HEPA filter, let us know by filling out our volunteer form.

02 - Walk a cleaner path

On roads, vehicle engines burn fossil fuels, and this combustion creates lots of UFPs - especially when it’s cold out. Walking is a healthy way to get around, but walking along busy streets can significantly increase your exposure to UFPs. If you’re able, walk along a quieter street instead, and breathe healthier along the way.

03 - Close windows when you see or hear UFP sources

If there are aircraft taking off or landing overhead or a lot of vehicles burning fuel outside your home or car, there are a lot of UFPs too. Keep the particles outside during peak traffic times by closing your windows.
